Kinh Ngu Trang – Kinh Ngu Trang Nam Field Development Project Officially Receives First Commercial Oil Flow

At 7:09 a.m. on July 14, 2025, the Kinh Ngu Trang – Kinh Ngu Trang Nam (KNT-KTN) field development project successfully opened four wells on the WHP-KTN platform to receive the first oil flow (First Oil). Later, at 10:34 a.m. the same day, the CPP-KNT platform received the incoming crude, which is subsequently transported to the MSP-10 platform for processing via a 38-kilometer subsea pipeline.

The project was completed one day ahead of schedule while ensuring quality, marking a significant contribution to the goal of increasing production output and securing national energy supply.

The KNT-KTN field development project, located in Block 09-2/09, is jointly implemented by Vietsovpetro Joint Venture, PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP), and AO Zarubezhneft, with Vietsovpetro serving as the project operator. The scope of work includes the construction of the CPP-KNT central platform, the WHP-KTN wellhead platform, infield and interfield pipelines and subsea cables, and modifications to the MSP-10, MSP-9, and BK-15 platforms. This is a technically demanding and large-scale project comprising multiple complex work packages.

Over the course of 33 months, the project was carried out through detailed design, procurement, and construction in the face of numerous challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic, global armed conflicts, severe weather, and technical complexities in deep-water operations. Despite these adversities, the project was delivered ahead of schedule and met rigorous safety and engineering standards.

The construction and commissioning of all systems were conducted in a synchronized, tightly managed manner to ensure quality, safety, and progress. Vietsovpetro's Acceptance Council carried out inspections directly on-site at MSP-10 on July 4, 2025, and at CPP-KNT and WHP-KTN on July 11, 2025. The inspections confirmed that all systems were ready and met the safety criteria for commercial operation. Immediately thereafter, Vietsovpetro’s personnel, engineers, and technical staff at platforms KNT, KTN, MSP-10, and BK-15 swiftly completed the final commissioning procedures in a methodical and timely manner to bring the system online.

As of First Oil, the project has achieved over 6.6 million man-hours of incident-free work, a remarkable achievement that highlights the professionalism, discipline, and high sense of responsibility of Vietsovpetro’s workforce.

Amid declining production output in Block 09-1 and adjacent fields, the timely commissioning of the KNT-KTN project not only enables Vietsovpetro to sustain production at over 3 million tons per year, but also strengthens national energy security and affirms maritime sovereignty through strategic oil and gas cooperation in the Cuu Long and Nam Con Son basins.

The first commercial oil flow from the KNT-KTN project is the result of millions of hours of dedicated effort and is a testament to the technological capability, unity, and innovation of Vietnam’s oil and gas workforce. This milestone carries strategic importance in unlocking and efficiently exploiting the hydrocarbon potential in southern offshore areas.
