Petrovietnam meets oil and gas contractors in 2023

On 9th March, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) held the meeting 2023 with the oil and gas contractors, operators and partners operating in Vietnam.

The meeting was attended by representative leaders from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Government Office, the Committee for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises, relevant ministries and agencies.

On the side of Petrovietnam, there were Chairman of the Board of Directors Hoang Quoc Vuong; President and CEO Le Manh Hung; members of the Board of Directors, the Executive Management Board, representative leaders of the Divisions and Petrovietnam’s subsidiaries; along with the presence of contractors, partners, domestic and foreign investors who have accompanied Petrovietnam over the years.

In the period of 2020-2022, along with heavy impacts from the covid-19 pandemic, the oil and gas industry had difficulties and challenges in the face of socio-economic fluctuations in the country and in the world. Therefore, the program to meet oil and gas contractors in 2023 is an opportunity for Petrovietnam, its contractors and partners to look back on the operation process of the past 3 years, share new orientations and goals, and send gratitude to the contractors, partners and units that have accompanied Petrovietnam during the past time to obtain remarkable achievements.

At the meeting, President and CEO Le Manh Hung reviewed the Group’s production and business results in the past three years. In 2020, Petrovietnam “spectacularly overcame difficulties” to successfully realize optimal value, overcame the “double crisis” to become one of the rare bright spots in the economic picture with a profit of about 900 million USD; In 2021, identified as the “year of growth recovery”, Petrovietnam took full advantage of favorable opportunities in all areas of operation, profit increased by 2.6 times compared to 2020, reaching about 2.2 billion USD; and in 2022, the “year of maximum value”, Petrovietnam combined all resources and favorable conditions to create comprehensive successes with many records set.

With the vision to be the country’s leading energy industry group, pioneering in the development of green and clean energy and gradually reducing net emissions, contributing to the successful implementation of the Government’s commitment at COP26, Petrovietnam has built a development strategy to adapt to the trend of global energy transition. This is also an opportunity for Petrovietnam to once again affirm its desire to conquer new heights with strong growth targets.

With strong financial potential, leadership in science and technology development and management capacity on par with the region, Petrovietnam has built clear goals for the coming time and is determined to successfully implement them. In that process, Petrovietnam wishes all Contractors, Operators and partners to continue their efforts, work together to overcome all difficulties and challenges, build a sustainable, dynamic, adaptive Petrovietnam in a changing world to reach new heights.

Accordingly, Petrovietnam President and CEO proposed the Contractors, Operators and partners together with Petrovietnam/ Petrovietnam’s subsidiaries cooperate closely and successfully implement the approved Plan and Budget Work Program 2023, synchronously implement solutions to ensure the completion of the oil and gas exploration and production plan, striving to increase oil and gas reserves in 2023 to 8-16 million tons of oil equivalent; actively research and make optimal adjustments to the exploration plan in the next period; control, operate safely, stably and optimize the repair and maintenance of oil and gas plants/works; Work closely and be proactive to effectively solve difficulties and problems in the implementation process so that projects and works are completed on schedule.

Most importantly, the goal is to constantly strengthen the value chain that has been put into operation effectively and establish a new chain to create added value and develop the Petrovietnam ecosystem in a sustainable way; assess the factors affecting the main business products and services of Petrovietnam, competitiveness compared to new energy forms as a basis for developing strategies, appropriate conversion solutions in each short, medium and long-term period; Finally, focus on solutions to apply science and technology, promote digital transformation, build corporate culture that integrates digital culture to promote innovation, change management thinking, thereby improving the product value and labor productivity throughout Petrovietnam.

On the occasion, Petrovietnam awarded Certificates of Merit to 12 teams and 12 individuals of contractors, operators and partners with outstanding achievements in operating and managing oil and gas activities in the period of 2020 – 2022.

Representing the honored contractor at the program, Mr. Do Ngoc Thanh - Deputy General Director of Japan Vietnam Petroleum Company Limited (JVPC) expressed his recognition and thanks to the Government of Vietnam, local authorities at all levels and especially Petrovietnam for strong supported to JVPC’s activities over the years. During the crisis period caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, more than ever, JVPC and its colleagues have received great and timely cooperation and support from Petrovietnam and local authorities, through active communication, direction, guidance and best efforts in the priority vaccination program for offshore workers. This is also a key factor for JVPC and its colleagues to ensure safe operation and achieve business and production goals.

JVPC representative highly appreciated the efforts of the Government of Vietnam and Petrovietnam in creating more favorable business platform and environment for contractors through the recently promulgated Petroleum Law 2022, bringing many expectations for the development of the oil and gas industry in the future. JVPC was committed to maintaining safe and efficient operations at Block 15-2 as well as effort to expand its business in the energy sector in Vietnam with the close cooperation of Petrovietnam.
