Petrovietnam and US partner shares and exchanges cooperation opportunities in the field of technology and energy transition

On 14th May 2022, within the framework of the business trip to the United States, the delegation of Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) led by President and CEO Le Manh Hung had working sessions with Mr. Changjie Gou, ILP Program Director of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Ms. Kirsty Morton, Director of Schlumberger’s DOLL Research Center.

The meeting was attended by Petrovietnam Vice President Le Ngoc Son; leaders of Petrovietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP), Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR), Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI). 


President and CEO Le Manh Hung talked with Mr. Changjie Guo of MIT

At the meeting, Mr. Changjie Gou introduced about MIT’s typical inventions and research products such as www, email, Moderna vaccine and Nobel Prize-winning professors. MIT has about 300 patents, 25 startups every year. The total revenue of businesses originating from MIT is up to 2 trillion USD/ year. 

Mr. Changjie Gou also introduced about the ILP program that connects global businesses with professors, students, startups from MIT so that businesses can stay up to date with the latest technology trends in the world and order problems to be solved by technology.

The delegation visited the Research Center of Schlumberger

Petrovietnam President and CEO Le Manh Hung and Mr. Changjie Gou exchanged views on energy transition trends, especially sharing experiences on the Hydrogen value chain. President and CEO Le Manh Hung expressed that Petrovietnam would consider sending representative to participate in the ILP program of MIT to update and forecast technology trends to support the development of Petrovietnam in the new situation.

Working with Schlumberger’s DOLL Research Center, Ms. Kirsty Morton and MIT’s research team introduced to President and CEO Le Manh Hung and the delegation the latest research in the oil and gas activities: automation and robotics in monitoring, reducing methane emissions, inspecting drill bits…; identifying stones through cuttings pattern images, sound waves to identify tube defects; new software to simulate 3D field structure… President and CEO Le Manh Hung expressed gratitude and wished to continue developing cooperation between Petrovietnam and Schlumberger.  

In the afternoon of the same day, President and CEO Le Manh Hung attended the policy talk and speech at Harvard University by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Right after participating in the Prime Minister’s program, President and CEO Le Manh Hung and Petrovietnam delegation had an exchange with Professor Thomas J. Valleyly, Vietnam Program Director, Harvard Kennedy School.

Petrovietnam discussed training cooperation with Harvard Kennedy School

President and CEO Le Manh Hung and Mr. Thomas J.Valleyly shared and assessed the energy transition trend and the programs expected to be implemented by Kennedy School in the near future, including the program on Green Energy. Mr. Le Manh Hung and Mr. Thomas J.Valleyly discussed training cooperation between Harvard Kennedy School and Petrovietnam, which is expected to organize a training program for Petrovietnam’s senior leaders by the end of 2022.
