At the meeting, on behalf of Wood’s leaders, Mr. Damon Hill introduced to Mr. Le Xuan Huyen about some outstanding activities of Wood. Wood is a multi-national company with many years of experience in consulting studies on technical solutions, pre-feasibility and detailed feasibility, as well as designing new and innovative projects in the fields of energy and industry and especially the oil and gas industry. Wood is headquartered in the United Kingdom and has representative offices in over 60 countries, employs about 40,000 people, and has a turnover of about US$7.6 billion.
Regarding the oil and gas field, Wood has many years of experience in oil refining. Over the past 10 years, Wood has provided consulting services for studies on technical solutions, feasibility, basic design for more than 100 oil refineries, carried out research for the upgrading, expansion, maintenance and repair of about 50 oil refineries of 30 countries and implemented about 40 new oil refinery projects.
Particularly in 2017, Wood acquired Amec Foster Wheeler (FW). It is one of the leading consulting firms in the world on formulating overall design for projects in the field of petrochemical industry. FW participated as a design consultant to implement the Front End Engineeing Design (FEED) for Dung Quat Oil Refinery Upgrading and Expanding Project (BSR), Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Project (NSRP), and FW also participated in the preparation of the total cost estimate and EPC bidding documents for the previous Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Project.
Overview of the meeting
At the meeting, the leaders of the two sides exchanged and discussed about the trend of energy transition taking place strongly in the world. Thus, it is forecasted that demand for refined oil products will decrease sharply in the future. That poses a big challenge for refineries to gradually shift to petrochemicals to adapt to the new trend. The two sides also exchanged and shared experiences on optimal technology solutions for Dung Quat Oil Refinery upgrading and expanding project to improve economic efficiency, in line with the trend of energy transition.
On behalf of Petrovietnam’s leaders, Vice President Le Xuan Huyen highly appreciated the cooperation between Wood in general, Amec Foster Wheeler in particular and BSR, Petrovietnam over the past years, most recently in joint study on adjustment plan for Dung Quat Oil Refinery upgrading and expanding project.
Vice President Le Xuan Huyen hoped that in the near future Wood and Petrovietnam would actively exchange information, experience and cooperation opportunities between the two parties in the development of oil and gas processing projects of the Group in order to contribute promoting energy transition in Vietnam. At the same time, he affirmed the Group’s leaders would create favorable conditions for Wood, Petrovietnam and its subsidiaries to cooperate effectively.
