Nhon Trach 3 & 4 LNG-to-Power Plants Clinch Double Honors at POWER Awards 2026
GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) has announced that the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plants have been honored across two categories at the POWER Awards 2026.
GE Vernova Inc. (NYSE: GEV) has announced that the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Power Plants have been honored across two categories at the POWER Awards 2026.
Specifically, the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 Combined Cycle Power Plants claimed the premier "Plant of the Year" award and took first prize in the "Top Plants: Fossil Fuels" category. The accolades recognize the project's successful adoption of advanced, innovative technologies, optimized operational efficiency, and minimized environmental footprint.
This double win not only reinforces the landmark status of Vietnam's maiden liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fired power plant, but also demonstrates the pivotal role of HA gas turbine technology in establishing a new benchmark for high-efficiency gas-fired generation. Furthermore, this achievement marks a significant milestone in GE Vernova's deployment of H-Class technology across Southeast Asia.

Developed by PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power, a subsidiary of PETROVIETNAM) with the Lilama – Samsung C&T Consortium serving as the EPC General Contractor, the project is located in the Ong Keo Industrial Park (Dai Phuoc Commune, Dong Nai Province) with a total generating capacity exceeding 1.6 GW.
Equipped with GE Vernova's advanced H-Class gas turbines, Nhon Trach 3 and 4 achieve a combined-cycle net efficiency of over 63%, on par with the world's leading high-efficiency power facilities. Concurrently, the plant reduces carbon emissions by approximately 61% compared to coal-fired power plants of equivalent output. The high-efficiency generation and operational flexibility of Nhon Trach 3 and 4 play a vital role in safeguarding a reliable electricity supply while meeting the increasingly demanding requirements of the national grid.
Nhon Trach 3 and 4 were honored as Vietnam continues to expand and diversify its power generation mix to address growing electricity demand while accelerating the national energy transition. Under the adjusted National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8), Vietnam aims to develop approximately 22.5 GW of LNG-fueled capacity by 2030 in tandem with the rapid growth of renewable energy. These dynamics underscore a rising imperative for high-efficiency, flexible power sources to reinforce system reliability and stability.
Since commencing commercial operations in December 2025, Nhon Trach 3 and 4 have evolved into an indispensable component of Vietnam's power infrastructure, injecting large-scale, high-efficiency generation into the southern regional grid. The plant supplies power to major economic and industrial centers across Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai Province, while offering flexible dispatch capacity to balance the increasing proportion of intermittent renewable energy on the system.
This international recognition affirms the critical role of Nhon Trach 3 and 4 in Vietnam's energy transition and serves as a testament to the efforts that brought the nation's flagship LNG-to-power project into commercial operation.
PV Power Vice President Nguyen Duy Giang stated:
"The recognition of Nhon Trach 3 and 4 at the POWER Awards 2026 represents a major milestone for PV Power as well as the Vietnamese power sector. More importantly, it honors the collective dedication behind a pioneering, large-scale endeavor. Bringing Vietnam's first LNG power plant into operation in accordance with world-class standards demanded rigorous alignment in technology, engineering, and project execution. This triumph stands as a testament to the close partnership between PV Power, GE Vernova, and our valued partners."
GE Vernova's H-Class Technology Milestone
For GE Vernova, this recognition marks a turning point for H-Class technology in Southeast Asia, reaffirming the vital role of flexible, high-efficiency gas power in supporting dynamic, evolving electricity grids. Nhon Trach 3 and 4 are equipped with two GE Vernova 9HA.02 gas turbines from the global HA turbine fleet, which collectively crossed 4 million commercial operating hours across 21 countries in 2026.
The project also showcases GE Vernova's capability to deploy H-Class technology at scale to fulfill immediate electricity demand while ensuring long-term operational flexibility. The two 9HA.02 turbines at Nhon Trach 3 and 4 currently operate on LNG and are engineered to co-fire up to 50% hydrogen, with a pathway toward 100% hydrogen combustion in the future.
Ramesh Singaram, President and CEO of Gas Power, Asia Pacific at GE Vernova, commented:
"Winning the double award at Nhon Trach 3 and 4 is significant recognition of the value this project delivers to Vietnam's power sector, as well as GE Vernova's H-Class technology deployment across Southeast Asia. The project illustrates how advanced, high-efficiency gas turbine technology can help meet Vietnam's shifting power requirements, reflecting GE Vernova's long-term capabilities in this market over decades. We remain committed to partnering with our customers through cutting-edge technology, services, and expertise to strengthen the future reliability and flexibility of Vietnam's power system."
GE Vernova's involvement in the project is anchored by its enduring footprint in Vietnam. The company's technologies currently support approximately 30% of the country's total electricity generation, supported by over 1,100 personnel across multiple facilities, including the Phu My Service Center and the Dung Quat Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) manufacturing plant. Notably, the HRSG systems for Nhon Trach 3 and 4 were manufactured locally at Dung Quat, highlighting GE Vernova's localized industrial footprint and direct contribution to the project.
The achievement of Nhon Trach 3 and 4 marks a significant milestone in GE Vernova's long-term growth in Vietnam as it collaborates with customers and partners to foster an increasingly reliable, efficient, and flexible energy system.
